About PNW Tides

Big ranges, exposed coast, and powerful tidal windows

The Pacific Northwest outer coast has some of the most powerful tidal conditions in the continental US. Mixed semi-diurnal tides produce two highs and two lows per day with significantly unequal heights. Tidal ranges run 8–12 feet along the Oregon and Washington coast, and the combination of wide tidal range, strong ocean swell, and steep beaches makes timing critical for any beach or coastal access.

TideSwell maps the outer coast stations from Northern California through Oregon to Washington's coast — separate from Puget Sound — giving you a clear picture of open-ocean tidal conditions from Crescent City to Neah Bay.

FAQ

Pacific Northwest tide questions

What are the tides like on the Oregon and Washington coast?
The PNW outer coast has mixed semi-diurnal tides with ranges of 8–12 feet. Two highs and two lows per day, with significantly unequal heights. The wide range combined with powerful ocean swell and steep beaches makes tidal timing critical for beach access, bar crossings, and coastal recreation.
Does TideSwell cover Oregon razor clam beach tides?
Yes. The Pacific Northwest region covers the Oregon coast including key clamming beaches. You can see current tidal state and upcoming low tides across the whole coast at once, making it easy to identify the best clamming windows.
How many tide stations does TideSwell cover on the PNW coast?
TideSwell covers 26 NOAA tide stations along the Pacific Northwest outer coast — from Crescent City and Eureka in Northern California, through Coos Bay, Newport, and Astoria in Oregon, to Westport and Neah Bay on Washington's coast. Puget Sound has its own separate region with additional stations.
